How we approach the work

Structured, written, bounded

Each Lanternpath engagement starts with a short written scope document — agreed before any work begins — that describes what is included, what the deliverable will be, and when the engagement ends. This applies to all three offerings, including the monthly retainer.

During delivery, we work with the information the client provides and the people they indicate are relevant. We do not expand scope without explicit agreement. We do not bring in additional staff without telling the client. At the close of each engagement, we produce a written document that the client takes away and can act on without further involvement from us.

Reporting Stack Review

A three-week structured review of an organisation's existing reporting stack. We examine which dashboards exist, who uses them, how often, and where reports overlap or contradict each other. The output is a written summary with a one-page picture of the current state and a short list of options for tightening the set of reports the leadership team relies on.

How the three weeks run

Week 1 — Inventory

We gather a complete list of dashboards, recurring reports, and data outputs. We record where each lives, who receives it, and at what cadence.

Week 2 — Interviews

Structured conversations with a small number of report producers and consumers to understand actual usage versus stated purpose.

Week 3 — Written summary

We draft and deliver the written current-state summary and options document. One revision cycle is included.

Morning — What are we trying to measure?

We review the current list of metrics, discuss what decisions they are meant to support, and identify candidates for the core set.

Afternoon — Definition and agreement

Each selected KPI is written down in a single sentence with its definition, data source, and review cadence. The team reviews and signs off.

Post-workshop document

Within two working days, we deliver a formatted written record of all agreed KPI definitions for the team to distribute internally.

KPI Definition Workshop

A one-day facilitated session for a leadership team of up to ten people. The workshop works through the small set of measures the team wants to use as its main KPIs. By the end of the day, each KPI is written down as a single sentence with a clear definition, a data source, and a chosen cadence for review.
